VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: On Saturday, September 16, Rebuilding Together Arlington/Fairfax/Falls Church needs about 20 volunteers for home repairs and yard work to help two Jefferson Manor homeowners age in place. Volunteers should plan to work from about 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM. Rebuilding Together will provide the tools and materials and some skilled team leaders. Volunteers with a mix of skills are needed for the following repairs:
– Pruning trees and shrubs and yard cleanup
– Spreading topsoil to grade away from the foundation
– Building exterior steps
– Installing grab bars, stair rails and hand rails
– Sealing gaps, cracks and holes to keep out pests
– Tuning up storm porch windows
– Exterior painting
– Replacing light fixtures and installing GFCIs
– Venting a clothes dryer outside
JMCA hopes these projects will introduce our community to Rebuilding Together, engage lots of volunteers to help our neighbors, and help spread the word to other low- and moderate-income homeowners who qualify for Rebuilding Together’s free home repairs.
If you are available and interested in volunteering, please contact Natalie Arbuckle at [email protected] if you are interested. Volunteers must be 14 years and older. JMCA will give community service hours to high school students who participate; just let us know that you would like to receive credit for the hours you work.
